On July 21, Guardiola suggested the difference between City and Schalke's valuation of the player is "quite big," per Richard Morgan of Sky Sports.

As reported by Jack Gaughan and Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail on Monday, Sane's deal will likely cost £42 million in total, the highest fee Guardiola has spent in England so far.

"Real Madrid and Bayern are also still in mix," Sane's father, Souleyman, told Sky News in Germany (h/t Stephan Uersfeld of ESPN FC).

Sane, Guardiola Partnership Could Blossom at City

After securing his status as a first-team regular for the Bundesliga side in 2015-16, Sane was rated among European football’s most exciting prospects. This is what he’s capable of offering:

Left-footed, quick and versatile in terms of where he can line up, the German can bring something different to the City attack.

Sane has matured significantly over the last 12 months, and while there are still haphazard moments in his play, that’s to be anticipated from someone in the early stages of his career. Guardiola has previously shown he’s an ideal coach to tune the attributes of attacking starlets.

These numbers from WhoScored.com sum up the kind of player the 20-year-old is, always looking to commit opposition defenders:

Leroy Sané: Of players aged 21 or under in Europe's top 5 leagues last season only Ousmane Dembele completed more dribbles than Sané (91)

City have Raheem Sterling, Nolito and Jesus Navas to call upon in the wide positions, so it’ll be fascinating to see how Sane fits in.

It may take a while for the German to nail down a place in the starting XI and adapt to the physicality of the Premier League, but it’s easy to see him becoming a star under Guardiola.
